Bocas del Toro Living - How
to live, succeed, and enjoy life in Panama's most incredible ecotourism
outpost
| ||||
Fun Activities in Bocas del ToroRainforests - Absolutely incredible, dense, untamed wild and wonderful forests abound. Mangroves and jungles line most of the coast and are home to monkeys like the tiny "titi" or tamarin monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys and noisy but fun howler monkeys. Slow moving sloths hang from trees and occasionally are seen swimming the inland rivers or ponds. Exotic Bird Island (Swan Cay) has birds seen nowhere else in the world. Don't forget to check out the world famous red poison dart frogs. With rugged hiking or deep country exploring you really need a nature guide to maximize your fun and get the most value from your trip.
Diving and Snorkeling - The best places for diving include Hospital Point, Coral Key, Dark Wood Reef and Punta Juan buoy. Snorkelers love the Garden near Cayo Nancy, Hospital Point and Punta Juan buoy. Choose between hiring a diving tour operator or water taxi and going on your own. Bocas diving represents some of the best preserved hard and soft coral forests in this hemisphere. You'll see sting rays, mantas, lobsters, crabs, and of course countless exotic tropical reef fish. Need Dive Certification? - A couple local water sports shops offer PADI scuba courses, open water with certification in Advanced, Rescue, First Aid or Dive Master courses. These typically cost less than similar courses in the United States. Boat Rentals - 15 and 20 foot boat launches for rent through local marinas Nightlife - Bocas is very casual and easy going. In some places tourists party every night...but it is not the norm. This is not Cabo and its not spring break in Daytona Beach. If you need crowds of drunk half wits to validate your experience Bocas is probably not your place. There is a unique, peaceful fun to be had here though, with great simple bars and restaurants aplenty. Shopping - Visit marvelous handicrafts stores, fine local Indian crafts, and streetside displays of molas attended by real Kuna Indians. Panama is famous for its molas-colorful reverse applique cloth designs and you can find the best selection of molas anywhere. You get to purchase directly from the Indians and help support this beautiful culture and people. There are custom chocolates too. Restaurants - Bocas restaurants have a great variety and are quite inexpensive and often include delicious lobster, Italian dishes, grilled steaks, pizza shops, gringo food, deli's, East Indian, Texas BBQ, Mexican Cuisine, as well as vegetarian, with some restaurants serving meals right out over the water.
