Hospital Point - Bocas del Toro Panama
Hospital Point - is located about 2 miles east of Bocas town. Back in 1898 it was the central medical center for the United Fruit Company. Now it is a tourist attraction.
There is always a stiff breeze here, which typically prevents all mosquitoes and biting flies from getting a toehold. August-November has the calmest weather but you can see the diverse marine life anytime. You will find reef fish like the Sergeant Major, Green Moray, Gray Angelfish, Giant Angelfish, as well as Damselfish, Parrotfish, sea anemone, urchins, sea stars, stinging coral, bristleworm, and tube sponges. Your guide can point out the best places to snorkel as the marine life is varied, interesting, easy to locate, and abundant.
The hospital building itself is on top of a high hill and sits on the edge of Nancy Cay (known to many in Spanish as Isla Solarte) One of the main attractions of this area is the incredible views of other islands. There are magnificent views of Isla Bastimentos, Careening Cay and Bocas town from the hills and beaches. Bring your camera, time it well, and with proper positioning you can create some stunning pictures.
You can take a boat tour to Hospital Point or kayak there in an hour or less from Bocas town. This is a unique place and definitely worth visiting.
